Southern Co-op Fareham:
Ian Dodd, Southern Co-op’s distribution manager, explains that with landfill at £28 a tonne plus skip costs, the new baler will save the company £50,000 a year in waste collection, plus generate revenue through sales of the material. “Each store has a small compactor that will compress the waste board by a third. They are returned to us in wheeled store cages and then tipped into the conveyor. The baler only takes up two aisles and is tight against the storage racks. At this rate we shall have paid for the baler in about 18 months.” |
